Reading Swedish salaries
Salaries in Sweden are quoted as a gross monthly figure, not an annual one — a job ad saying 45,000 means 45,000 kronor a month before tax. There are no statutory minimum wages; pay floors are set by collective agreements between unions and employers, which cover around 90% of employees. Income tax is mostly municipal and lands around 30–34% for a typical earner, with a national surtax on income above roughly 51,000 SEK a month. Employer social contributions of about 31% sit on top of the salary and are not part of the figures here. Every number on this site is the gross monthly salary, converted to a full-time equivalent, so part-time and full-time jobs can be compared directly.
