Assistant nurses in home care, home healthcare and residential care for older people provide personal care and everyday support, in people's homes or in care homes. The usual route in is the health and social care programme at upper secondary school or its equivalent in adult education, and assistant nurse (undersköterska) is now a protected title in Sweden. Most are employed by municipalities, although private providers also run home care services and care homes. Assistant nurses on hospital wards and in outpatient clinics are counted as separate occupations.
