Personal assistants provide everyday support to people with extensive disabilities, at home, at school, at work and in their free time. The support is granted under the Swedish disability act (LSS) or as assistance allowance from the Social Insurance Agency, and the employer may be a municipality, a private assistance company, a cooperative or the person receiving assistance. There are no formal training requirements, and the work is shaped around the individual's needs. Pay differs mainly with experience and employer.
