Real estate agents handle the sale of homes and other property: valuation, marketing, viewings, contracts and completion. Working as an estate agent in Sweden requires registration with the Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate (Fastighetsmäklarinspektionen), which in turn requires an education with prescribed content and a period of practical training. Most agents work for private firms, often part of a chain. Pay commonly includes a large commission component, so earnings can vary considerably between individuals and from year to year.
